Portfolio
Portfolios are becoming more and more important to the job search process. Whether you are putting it on your website, blog, LinkedIn or simply have a paper copy, it can make the difference between getting the job---and not.

What is it? For many years, the portfolio was used by artists and graphic designers to show examples of their work to prospective galleries and employers. Now it can be used by anyone in binder or website format to obtain a job.

What can go in a portfolio:

  • Awards and Honors
  • Certificates of awards, honors, and scholarships
  • Transcripts, Degrees, Licenses, and Certifications
  • A description of relevant courses, degrees, licenses, and certifications
  • Thank you notes received from colleagues, or after giving a presentation
  • Posters, pamphlets--any publicity you create
  • Artwork, graphic design samples, cards you make for friends
  • Web sites (links to video of presentations, graphics, etc.)
  • Writing samples, including published and unpublished work (fiction and non-fiction)
  • Powerpoint/overhead copies of formal or informal presentations you have given

We at Sage can help advise you on your portfolio. This can also be a great project to help you when asking for a promotion--it proves your worth to the employer.
